The Better Score Guarantee applies to one-on-one tutoring (“1:1 Tutoring”) and group session courses (“Group Courses”) for certain standardized tests for admission into college and graduate schools.

Which Standardized Test Subjects are Guaranteed?

The Better Score Guarantee applies to all 1:1 Tutoring and Group Courses for the following standardized tests: SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, & LSAT (each an “Eligible Test”), but, if not included on the list, please speak with a customer service representative to see if the standardized test you are looking to take is now eligible for the Better Score Guarantee.

What are the eligibility requirements?

1:1 Tutoring: In order to be eligible for the Better Score Guarantee, you must:

  1. Purchase a 1:1 Tutoring package of at least 24 hours in an Eligible Test subject with a tutor obtained through the Varsity Tutors platform.

  2. Complete a minimum of 24 hours of 1:1 Tutoring in the Eligible Test subject, all of which must be completed in the 3-month time period preceding the date on which you take the Eligible Test.

  3. Within 10 days of purchase, submit an official test score to Varsity Tutors to serve as a baseline (your “Baseline Test Score”). (If you have not taken an Eligible Test prior to your purchase, you are not eligible for the Better Score Guarantee, but please review the Personal Satisfaction Guarantee referenced below).

  4. Download and log in to the Varsity Tutors Learning Tools study mobile app, prior to your first 1:1 Tutoring meeting following your purchase under the Better Score Guarantee, and if your Eligible Test subject is the ACT, SAT, or GRE, then also download the Varsity Tutors Prep Book for ACT/SAT/GRE.

  5. Complete all homework and/or assignments provided by your tutor and adhere to the lesson plan agreed to with the tutor, as applicable.

  6. Take the official Eligible Test within 14 days of your last 1:1 Tutoring meeting in that Eligible Test subject.

  7. Submit the official score for the Eligible Test to Varsity Tutors within 14 days of the score release date.

Group Course: In order to be eligible for the Better Score Guarantee, you must:

  1. Purchase a Group Course in an Eligible Test subject with a tutor or instructor obtained through the Varsity Tutors platform.

  2. Attend all Group Course sessions included as part of your purchase.

  3. Within 10 days of purchase, submit an official test score to Varsity Tutors for the Eligible Test to serve as a Baseline Test Score. (If you have not taken an Eligible Test prior to your purchase, you are not eligible for the Better Score Guarantee, but please review the Personal Satisfaction Guarantee referenced below).

  4. Download and log in to the Varsity Tutors Learning Tools study mobile app, prior to your first Group Course session following your purchase under the Better Score Guarantee, and if your Eligible Test subject is the ACT, SAT, or GRE, then also download the Varsity Tutors Prep Book for ACT/SAT/GRE.

  5. Complete all homework and/or assignments provided by your tutor or instructor and adhere to the curriculum developed and provided by the tutor or instructor, as applicable.

  6. Take the official Eligible Test within 14 days of your last Group Course session in that Eligible Test subject.

  7. Submit the official score for the Eligible Test to Varsity Tutors within 14 days of the score release date.

How is improvement defined?

A “better score” is defined as at least a 1 point increase from your Baseline Test Score.

If my score does not improve, what are my options?

1:1 Tutoring: If your score did not improve and you have satisfied the eligibility requirements, then you can either (a) get your money back for your most recent Eligible Test 1:1 Tutoring package or (b) receive a one-time credit of the same number of tutoring hours originally purchased in the same Eligible Test subject (capped at the number of hours that were actually completed as part of your eligibility requirements) in order to help you prepare for a subsequent test, at no additional cost. Any non-purchased hours that Varsity Tutors adds to your account hereunder have no cash value and are not redeemable or usable for cash.

Group Course: If your score did not improve and you have satisfied the eligibility requirements, then you can either (a) get your money back for the Group Course you purchased for the Eligible Test or (b) receive a one-time credit for the same Group Course (which is comprised of a predetermined number of sessions and total number of hours) you originally purchased for the Eligible Test (if available) in order to help you prepare for a subsequent test, at no additional cost. Any non-purchased hours for a Group Course that Varsity Tutors adds to your account hereunder have no cash value and are not redeemable or usable for cash.

What if my score improves, but not as much as I had wanted it to?

Is there a minimum purchase requirement?

1:1 Tutoring: Yes, there is a 24-hour package minimum. You need to purchase at least 24 hours to be used in frequency and length as agreed to with your tutor toward your Eligible Test preparation, provided it is completed in the 3-month time period preceding the date on which you take the Eligible Test.

Group Course: Each Group Course has a predetermined number of sessions and total number of hours that are included in the Group Course. You satisfy the minimum purchase requirement by purchasing the Group Course for your Eligible Test.

How many times am I eligible for the Better Score Guarantee?

Whether seeking a refund or credit, you are only entitled to one or the other, and only once total for the Eligible Test that was the subject of your purchase. If you have satisfied the eligibility requirements for the Better Score Guarantee, including timely providing your official score in the Eligible Test, then you have 12 months from the date of purchase to request the refund or to obtain and use the one-time credits.The preceding limitation would not apply to a subsequent purchase that was eligible for the Better Score Guarantee whether in the same subject of the Eligible Test or a different Eligible Test (e.g. it only applies to each particular purchase).

How do I submit my Baseline Test Score and official scores to Varsity Tutors?

Your customer service representative will collect and document both your baseline and official test scores, as well as review any eligibility requirements and related documentation. Please contact us directly to do so.

If eligible for a refund, what will be refunded?

The full purchase price for your most recent Eligible Test 1:1 Tutoring package or your Group Course purchase, specifically related to the Eligible Test subject would be refunded, if eligible.

How do I request a refund?

Personal Satisfaction Guarantee

The Personal Satisfaction Guarantee applies to one-on-one tutoring (“1:1 Tutoring”) and group session courses (“Group Courses”) for certain standardized tests for admission into college and graduate schools - regardless of whether you have taken the official standardized test prior to your purchase. If you otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for the Better Score Guarantee for your particular purchase of 1:1 Tutoring or Group Course for an Eligible Test (except for the requirement to submit an official score for the Eligible Test to Varsity Tutors to serve as a Baseline Test Score) and you were not satisfied with your score on the Eligible Test you received (and you satisfied the eligibility requirements), then we will provide you one live online Group Course (which is comprised of a predetermined number of sessions, depending on the Eligible Test) in the same Eligible Test subject as your original purchase (regardless of whether you purchased 1:1 Tutoring or Group Course), at no additional cost for the particular purchase (but other purchases may also be eligible). This is a one-time credit only.

Pass Guarantee

Our Pass Guarantee terms were updated on July 16th, 2021 and the details below apply to all purchases made on or after this date. If you purchased before this date please see the terms set forth in your signed Terms of Customer Account Use. The Pass Guarantee applies to all one-on-one tutoring (“1:1 Tutoring”), Pass Guarantee eligible group session courses (“Group Courses”) and Bundled Package purchases for certain professional certifications and/or technical exams available through the Varsity Tutors platform.

Which Test Subjects are Guaranteed?

1:1 Tutoring: Subjects specific to professional certifications and/or technical exams (as determined by Varsity Tutors) (an “Eligible Test”) available through the Varsity Tutors platform, which will be confirmed with you in your purchase documentation.

Group Course and Bundled Packages: Subjects specific to professional certifications and/or technical exams (as determined by Varsity Tutors) (an “Eligible Test”) for which a Pass Guarantee Eligible Group Course is available for purchase through the Varsity Tutors platform. The current offerings include the following: NCLEX, SIE, Series 6, Series 7, Series 65, CPA FAR, CPA REG, CPA AUD, CPA BEC, USMLE, PMP, and Praxis, but, if not included on the list, please check to see if the standardized test you are looking to take has group courses eligible for the Pass Guarantee.

What are the eligibility requirements?

1:1 Tutoring: In order to be eligible for the Pass Guarantee, you must:

  1. Purchase a 1:1 Tutoring package of a minimum set of hours in an Eligible Test specific subject with a tutor obtained through the Varsity Tutors platform. The required minimum set of hours start at 12 hours, but may vary based on the Eligible Test specific subject, your starting level of proficiency and your official Eligible Test date. If your purchase is eligible for the Pass Guarantee, then the specific number of minimum hours applicable to your purchase will be provided to you as part of your purchase documentation.

  2. Complete the minimum set of hours of 1:1 Tutoring in the Eligible Test specific subject as set forth in your purchase documentation, all of which must be completed in the 6-month time period preceding the date on which you take the Eligible Test.

  3. Within 14 days of purchase (or within 14 days of registration for your exam, whichever is later), submit to Varsity Tutors proof of registration for your Eligible Test, including the exam date.

  4. Complete all homework and/or assignments provided by your tutor and adhere to the lesson plan agreed to with the tutor, as applicable.

  5. Take the official Eligible Test within 14 days of your last 1:1 Tutoring session in that specific subject of an Eligible Test.

  6. Submit the official score for the Eligible Test to Varsity Tutors within 14 days of the score release date.

Bundled Package: In order to be eligible for the guarantee, you must:

  1. Purchase a Pass Guarantee Eligible Group Course and 1:1 Tutoring bundle in an Eligible Test specific subject with a tutor or instructor obtained through the Varsity Tutors platform, effective for purchases made on or after August 7, 2019.

  2. Attend all Group Course sessions, included as part of your purchase, all of which must be completed in the 6-month time period preceding the date on which you take the Eligible Test.

  3. Complete the minimum set of hours of 1:1 Tutoring in the Eligible Test specific subject as set forth in your purchase documentation, all of which must be completed in the 6-month time period preceding the date on which you take the Eligible Test. The required minimum set of hours start at 8 hours, but may vary based on the Eligible Test specific subject, your starting level of proficiency and your official Eligible Test date. If your purchase is eligible for the Pass Guarantee, then the specific number of minimum hours applicable to your purchase will be provided to you as part of your purchase documentation.

  4. Within 14 days of purchase (or within 14 days of registration for your exam, whichever is later), submit to Varsity Tutors proof of registration and/or proof of test date for your Eligible Test, including the exam date.

  3. Within 14 days of purchase (or within 14 days of registration for your exam, whichever is later), submit to Varsity Tutors proof of registration and/or proof of test date for your Eligible Test, including the exam date.

What are my options if I do not pass my exam/certification test?

1:1 Tutoring: If you did not pass your Eligible Test and you have satisfied the eligibility requirements, then you can either: (a) receive a one-time credit for the same number of 1:1 Tutoring hours you originally purchased in the same Eligible Test specific subject (capped at the number of hours that were actually completed as part of your eligibility requirements) in order to help you prepare for a subsequent test, at no additional cost, (b) receive a live online Group Course in the same Eligible Test subject (if available), or (c) get your money back for your most recent Eligible Test 1:1 Tutoring package, unless otherwise set forth in your purchase documentation. Any non-purchased hours that Varsity Tutors adds to your account hereunder have no cash value and are not redeemable or usable for cash.

Bundled Package: If you did not pass your exam and you have satisfied the eligibility requirements, then you can either (a) receive a one-time credit for the same Group Course you purchased for the Eligible Test (if available) at no additional cost to you, (b) receive a one-time credit for the same number of 1:1 Tutoring hours you originally purchased in the same Eligible Test specific subject (capped at the number of hours that were actually completed as part of your eligibility requirements) as the Bundled Package you purchased at no additional charge, or (c) get your money back for the Bundled Package you purchased for the Eligible Test, unless otherwise set forth in your purchase documentation. Any non-purchased hours that Varsity Tutors adds to your account hereunder have no cash value and are not redeemable or usable for cash.

Group Course: If you did not pass your exam and you have satisfied the eligibility requirements, then you can receive a one-time credit for the same Group Course you purchased for the Eligible Test (if available) at no additional cost to you. Any non-purchased hours that Varsity Tutors adds to your account hereunder have no cash value and are not redeemable or usable for cash.

How many times am I eligible for the Pass Guarantee?

Whether seeking a refund or credit, you are only entitled to one or the other for any given qualifying purchase. To the extent you receive a refund, you are no longer entitled to receive credit for the same number of 1:1 Tutoring hours and/or a credit for a Group Course. To the extent you choose to receive a credit for 1:1 Tutoring hours or a Group Course as outlined above, then you are limited to requesting that for a maximum of three (3) times total within the 12-month time period from original date of purchase for the Eligible Test that was the subject of your original purchase, and you would no longer be entitled to a refund. After 12 months from the date of purchase, you are not eligible for any refunds or credits. The preceding limitations would not apply to a subsequent purchase that was separately eligible for the Pass Guarantee whether in the same subject of the Eligible Test or a different Eligible Test (e.g. it only applies to each particular that purchase).
