Ordered Pair
An ordered pair is a pair of numbers, , written in a particular order. The ordered pair is not the same ordered pair as . An ordered pair is often used to represent a point on a coordinate plane or the solution to an equation in two variables.
Example:
Find an ordered pair which is a solution of the equation
,
and plot the point on the coordinate plane.
The ordered pair works, since .
(Note that in higher math, an ordered pair doesn't have to be an ordered pair of numbers; you can have ordered pairs of sets, functions, or even ordered pairs!)
