Range (of Data)

The range of a set of numerical data is the difference between the highest value and the lowest value.

Example:

Suppose the test scores in a class are:

37 , 45 , 55 , 61 , 63 , 77 , 80 , 82 , 86 , 86 , 88 , 88 , 89 , 91 , 93 , 97

The highest score is 97 , and the lowest score is 37 . So the range of the data is

97 37 = 60 .
