If your child is anywhere between the 8th grade and the 11th grade, and their desired school for next year requires them to take the Upper Level SSAT, then they will want to dedicate some study time for the challenging multiple-choice test. The test is timed, so it is important to ensure that your child is familiar with all of the material on the SSAT syllabus prior to taking the test. The Upper Level SSAT is divided into verbal, quantitative, and reading comprehension sections, and test practice-based studying is ideal for SSAT preparation. Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools offer comprehensive test practice that is unique and high quality. For instance, the Learn by Concept tool specifically designed for SSAT Upper Level Verbal section test review allows your child to prioritize more focus on the verbal areas of study in which they may need more help.

This Learn by Concept tool breaks down the Upper Level Verbal section of the SSAT test into two main subjects, Analogies and Synonyms. Your child can click on each of those subjects to find sample questions for a quality content review. Going even further, there are subtopics in each subject that allow your child to drill down even more and concentrate on their current strengths and weaknesses. Inside the Analogies subject, the subtopics include: analogies determining meaning from prefixes, suffixes, and roots; analogies determining meaning from different types of relationships; and analogies determining meaning or the part of speech from context. Within each of those subtopics, there are still two more layers of subtopics from which to choose for a customized study experience.

Inside the Synonyms subject, your child can find subtopics including a general subtopic that reviews how to identify synonyms, then a more specific subtopic reviewing how to identify synonyms when words have multiple meanings, and finally, a subtopic that reviews how to use prefixes, suffixes, and roots to identify synonyms. Similar to the Analogies subject and subtopics, there are still two more layers of subtopics within these parameters, creating a comprehensive and effective SSAT Upper Level Verbal section test preparation.

After clicking on a subject or one of the many subtopics, your child is greeted with SSAT Upper Level Verbal example questions. Each of the questions is in a multiple-choice format that simulates the actual verbal section of the SSAT that they will be taking. Several multiple-choice answers are provided in the practice test from which to choose, followed by the correct answer and a detailed explanation. To add even more value, the Learning Tool was designed so that when your child returns to the subject or subtopic for another practice round, the multiple-choice answers are automatically shuffled so that they cannot just memorize the answers.
