Calling all future scientists! Astronaut Leland Melvin has a challenge this summer for you: become an inventor. And in his STEAM Innovation program you’ll develop the skills to do just that as you explore the scientific method, engineering principles, and design processes through fun hands-on activities and challenges.

In this program, learners will meet weekly with an expert instructor and small group of peers to explore STEAM activities through discussions and hands-on activities.

What better way to become an Inventor than to innovate? Students can participate in a summer long innovator challenge!

Weekly Live Class Topics:

Week One: The Scientific Method

This week, students embark on a cosmic adventure with astronaut Leland as they explore the wonders of space and the scientific method. They will discover how trial and error is the cornerstone of scientific breakthroughs and kick-start their summer project.

Week Two: Experiments, Explained

This week, students will learn how to create testable hypotheses, set up control groups, and measure results. Get ready for them to design their own experiments and bring their curiosity to life!

Week Three: Math & Measurement

This week, students delve into the fascinating world of math and measurement with Leland's Space Statistics. They will uncover the importance of numbers in science, and conduct exciting at-home experiments that challenge their measurement skills.

Week Four: Simple Machines

Students will join Leland Melvin and Phil Cook as they reveal how NASA uses simple machines to tackle big challenges.

Week Five: Engineering Ingenuity

This week, students will explore how STEAM knowledge can be applied to solve real-world problems.

Week Six: The Art of Innovation

Let's celebrate the A in STEAM and discover the vital role of art and aesthetics in scientific innovation. Students will explore how the perfect blend of form and function can lead to groundbreaking discoveries.
